Howling Workshop
I'm going to be honest with you: the video quality is pretty bad. A toaster would have done a better job, and it does not do justice to this workshop. Sadly, this is the only record I have from this workshop.
The project was originally designed by Irena Pivka and Brane Zorman, but they were unable to attend the event in Cyprus. I was then invited to lead the initiative as part of the Respublika Festival in 2017. I was provided with little context, just a brief text of a few paragraphs. However, I embraced the opportunity and let my creativity flourish. I viewed this as a chance to develop and experiment with non-formal education techniques while using performative elements as tools for community building. For me, the entire experience served as a playground to test my leadership skills and to bridge knowledge from various disciplines.
My perspective on this workshop was to incorporate various physical exercises I drew from theater methodologies, mindful movement, meditation, and voice work as a means to release trauma and reclaim our habitat, especially since it took place in the buffer zone. I still get goosebumps when I think back on this workshop because nothing makes you feel more alive than howling your lungs out in a space where you are "not allowed" to be. The demographic diversity of the participants also made it particularly successful. I had adults walking, moving, and howling in a semi-public space, which I consider a success from a leadership standpoint. I could go on and on about how using your suppressed minority voice in a visceral way, especially in an area with a strong military presence, is incredibly empowering. However, I'll save that for a little box in my head labeled "Potential PhD topics."
